During a ceremony held in Baku, Azerbaijan Airlines, the national flag carrier, has confirmed its order for 12 A320neo Family aircraft, including A320neo and A321neo, from Airbus. The airline intends to renew its fleet with the latest generation of aircraft to enhance fuel efficiency, operational efficiency, and competitiveness while providing passengers with exceptional comfort. The airline has not yet announced its engine selection.
Samir Rzayev, the First Vice-President of AZAL CJSC, expressed satisfaction with the continuation of the fruitful partnership with Airbus and the fleet modernization program. He added that the signed contract for 12 A320neo Family aircraft would provide passengers with comfortable and modern aircraft.
Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International, Christian Scherer, noted that this order represented a significant achievement in the long-standing collaboration between Airbus and Azerbaijan Airlines. He emphasized the A320neo Family's fuel efficiency and cost-effectiveness, which makes it an appealing option for airlines seeking sustainable growth. He further stated that this order demonstrated the trust that customers have in Airbus' aircraft's reliability and performance, and he expects it to further enhance Azerbaijan Airlines' sustainable growth.
Azerbaijan Airlines currently operates a fleet of 15 Airbus aircraft, including 4 A319ceo, 6 A320ceo, 2 A340s, and 3 A320neo aircraft that were added this year. The airline aims to expand its domestic and international route network by utilizing efficient A320neo Family aircraft.
The A320neo Family is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including new generation engines and Sharklets, which results in at least 20% fuel burn and CO2 emission reduction. The aircraft has been ordered by 135 customers worldwide, with a total of 8,700 orders, making it the world's most popular aircraft.
