India jumps to 48th rank in global aviation safety ranking - ICAO safety report 2022
India has moved up the list of 48th-ranked countries for global aviation safety from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), according to the DGCA officials. For the past 16 years, the International Civil Aviation Organization has been reviewing countries' laws and resources to govern air safety. India has been placed in the list of the 50 best countries worldwide for a comprehensive security audit conducted by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), said the director general of civil aviation on Saturday.India has been ranked among the top 50 countries in the world in terms of a comprehensive safety audit conducted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) , the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said on Saturday. After this, ICAO gave India the highest EI ever, 85.49 percent, putting it in 48th place, said senior officials. This is a huge improvement over its score in its previous audit, conducted in 2018, which was 69.95 percent, which placed India 102nd, ahead of countries such as Nepal (101st), Pakistan (100th), Bangladesh (94th) and Sudan (89th). India's score on the effectiveness of key safety elements has improved to 85.49 percent, DGCA officials said.
A senior DGCA official said that India has performed better than China, which was at 49th place on the watch list. The challenge is to retain its status as the top finding, Arun Kumar, the head of the DGCA, told The Economic Times, while affirming the rank. Top DGCA officials said that India's scores in every domain have improved. Higher rankings means India has improved the process for ensuring aviation safety.
He added that the official report of ICAO is yet to come, but by ranking, India is among countries that enjoy a higher aviation safety rating. India's score on aviation safety ranks India ahead of several OECD countries including China, Poland, Denmark. Officials say India's score on the Aviation Safety Oversight Mechanism is now higher than countries such as China (49), Israel (50), Turkey (54), Denmark (55) and Poland (60).
Officials said after an audit, the United Nations Aviation Organizations Aviation Department gave DGCA the highest EI ever score, 8.59%, putting India at the 48th place. The audit, a programmed under the Global Audit Program for Security Oversight, seeks to determine whether countries are implementing practices efficiently and consistently. The Indian score on aviation security is now at 85.49 per cent compared with 72.93 in 2018 when the latest audit was conducted. The countries that have been left out of the total scores put their safety oversight systems in the lower-quartile of 187 countries evaluated by ICAO.
