British Airways 787-8 suffers nose gear collapse - career spot

The nose landing gear of the British Airways B7878-8 was retracted on ground on 18.06.2021 which was parked at remote bay at Heathrow airport.

This is the first Dreamliner aircraft of the British Airways. This incidence was happen while the plane was being loaded up for a cargo flight. This incident was not happen during pushback or taxy, rather happen during plane was stationary. In this incident no one injured because it was parked at remote bay. Investigation was started by the UK'S  Air Accident Investigation Branch.

This safety alert is issue by the the operational safety team to advise of an event that occured to British Airways 787 on 18.06.2021. Due to recency of the event we are unable to confirm the root cause however our engineering team have been able to  review the risk of a similar event to our fleet. 

 A similar event occured to the Ethiopian 787 back in 2016. A subsequent AD was released after the nose landing gear retracted on ground, following  incorrect installation of downlock pin. Through investigation it was found that there is ab apex inner bore which can be mistaken for the location hole, presenting an opportunity for human factors error

A British Airways spokesperson confirmed that no one was onboard the Dreamliner when the incident occurred. They said: “A freighter aircraft has been damaged while stationary on stand. As a freighter only aircraft there were no passengers on board.
“Safety is always our highest priority and we are investigating the matter.”

According to the airline, as the jet was on stand at the time, there have been no delays at Heathrow as a result of the collapse.
Both flights and passengers remain unaffected, a Heathrow spokesperson confirmed.
